Is it time to bring tennis balls and sack races to the All-Star Game?
Editor's note: In our "Friday Faceoff," ESPN.com NHL writer Scott Burnside (based in Atlanta) and Toronto Star columnist and frequent ESPN.com contributor Damien Cox (based in Toronto) duke it out over any given hockey topic. Let the games begin! This week's topic: The rosters were named this week for this season's All-Star Game, which will be held Jan. 27 in Atlanta. But really, who cares? How can the NHL make the All-Star Game relevant and fun again? Scott: Hello, Damien. How are things on the West Coast? I see the Leafs don't much like the weather out there, either. But you must be pumped about the All-Star Game. Or not. Damien: You know, being an Eastern Conference guy now after years of following the Maple Leafs when they were in the West, it's weird to come back to L.A.
Cambridge Who's Who Recognizes Dr. Serena M. Bordes For Excellence In ...
Serena M. Bordes, doctor of naturopathy, licensed acupuncturist and diplomate in acupuncture, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for excellence in the practice of naturopathy and Oriental medicine. Bordes, an esteemed V.I.P. member of Cambridge Who's Who, is now organizing local seminars to enlighten community members about the many benefits of naturopathic treatment. Bordes launched her career in holistic health after helping to correctly diagnose her daughter after she fell ill with a pituitary adenoma. This life-changing diagnosis marked the beginning of a holistic career spanning 30 years. Eight years ago, Bordes started a private practice, where she integrates acupuncture, homeopathic treatments, laser therapy and alternative health resources to treat patients.
An Idol kind of town
M.J. Nasser, a 21-year-old youth worker, is all smiles after making it to the next round of the Canadian Idol auditions at West Edmonton Mall yesterday. Nasser was the first person to audition, arriving at the mall on Friday evening to be at the front of the line. (DUNCAN KINNEY/SPECIAL TO SUN MEDIA) .
Durbin a tough test for GOP
Sauerberg, of Willowbrook, has continued to see patients at his LaGrange family practice while campaigning. He calls Durbin a "career politician'' and "one of the most liberal and divisive senators in the nation.'' On health care, Sauerberg would seek to eliminate Medicare; instead, citizens would buy private insurance, with vouchers going to those who can't afford it. "I'd like to see seniors who can afford [insurance] on their own pay a little bit more than seniors who could not afford it,'' he said. He'd also like to create administrative health courts -- which would be overseen by a panel of doctors, lawyers and patient advocates -- to hear medical malpractice claims. He opposes federal funding of stem cell research and sees it as too "divisive'' and instead sees promise in recent research working with skin cells.
User-Generated Content Is Junk
Only a small percentage consisted of advertiser-generated videos. Many are clips from TV shows that are getting in under the radar. Whether posting such items is illegal or not, I would argue that when one person decides to self-edit a clip from The Daily Show, you are talking about user-generated media because some amateur at home is playing producer, editor, and distributor. Most, though, range from Smosh's plush cat stories to my 6-year-old son's "icicle" school play. Search YouTube.com for people or brands, and the numbers tell the story. There were 4.3 million people who went out of their way to watch an amateur Hillary Clinton ad. There are 1 million-plus views of an amateur Hillary-bashing video that lasts more than 10 minutes. That is a level of engagement—by a critical mass of people—that surpasses the impact of a 30-second ad that costs, say, $20,000 to run and may or may not be seen by its intended audience.
