For instance, a drug such as Depakote, approved originally as an adult anti-seizure medication, is now also used to combat bipolar disorder in children, even though it has not been widely tested as a safe bipolar remedy for youngsters. The drug has been linked to liver failure in children younger than 2 and fetal abnormalities in pregnant women. Large clinical tests of children are uncommon, said Dr. Dianne Murphy, who heads FDA's office of pediatric therapeutics. "The fundamental underpinning of a trial is that the person who is participating does so at their own volition with the full comprehension of what they're doing." This makes ethical clinical testing of children difficult, she said. Even within Monroe County, opinions vary about which medications can be used.
It's a boy
Because the mother wants to be a friend versus a mother. Then they open centers for these girls to encourage them to have more on our dollar. Look at the PACE for yound girls in Immokalee. They are building an even bigger facility to house more girls. What they need to do is put them on birth control instead of bringing in another child i will have to raise with my tax dollar! .

More in Tier are turning to generic drugs
After enduring years of rising prescription drug costs, patients suffering from illnesses ranging from high blood pressure to weak bones can take heart in a new trend. The growing use and availability of generic prescription drugs saved Southern Tier residents, insurance companies and employers more than $25 million in 2007, according to recent findings by Excellus Blue Cross/Blue Shield. The trend is expected to continue as patents on major medicines continue to expire, making way for generics available at a fraction of the cost, said Joel Owerbach, vice president and chief pharmaceutical officer with Excellus. Patents that expired in 2007 include Norvasc, a blood-pressure drug, and Ambien, a sleep medication. Fosamax, an osteoporosis drug, is next up, with an expiration date in February.
Study proves the co-pay connection in chronic disease
As 2008 begins, millions of Americans are having to dig deeper into their own pockets every time they refill a prescription or see a doctor. The reason? Higher co-payments that took effect January 1, as employers try to deal with the rising cost of health insurance by making employees and retirees pay more. .
Player-reporter relationship uneasy at best
The relationship between hockey player and media member is often fraught, no matter how hard both sides work. The reasons are fairly obvious. The athlete knows he's going to be asked questions he may not want to hear or answer for fear of landing in trouble, even if the original topic seems benign. The reporter is looking to pry information from the athlete -- either a good quote on tape, or insight into what's going on inside the room. .
The Real State of the Real Estate Market
Well, while Alan Greenspan was out peddling his memoir this week, and Ben Bernanke was slashing rates, Shiller was testifying before Congress and making some sobering predictions that got virtually no attention in the press. In his remarks, the Yale professor warns of fresh shocks ahead for the housing market and for the financial system. Indeed, Shiller believes that "the collapse in home prices might turn out to be the most severe since the Great Depression." As Shiller notes, declines in the value of residential real estate have been a factor in every recession since 1950. It's a little bit hard to believe that the deflation of this housing bubble will be the exception. He also believes that Fed rate cuts alone can do little to alter the negative psychology of homeowners sitting on a depreciating asset.
Ciproxin (ciprofloxacin)
Ciproxin tablets, suspension and infusion all contain the active ingredient ciprofloxacin, which is a type of medicine called a quinolone antibiotic. Antibiotics are used to treat infections caused by bacteria. (NB. Ciprofloxacin tablets are also available without a brand name, ie as the generic medicine.) Ciprofloxacin works by killing the bacteria that are causing an infection. It does this by entering the bacterial cells and inhibiting a bacterial enzyme called DNA-gyrase. This enzyme is involved in replicating and repairing the genetic material (DNA) of the bacteria. If this enzyme doesn't work, the bacteria cannot reproduce or repair themselves and this kills the bacteria. Ciprofloxacin is effective against a large number of bacteria, some of which tend to be resistant to other commonly used antibiotics.
