| War as a Spectator Sport
It started Dec. 16, 1944, as a German offensive in Belgium's Ardennes forest and lasted until Jan. 25, 1945. More than a million troops fought in the battle, including about 600,000 Germans, 500,000 Americans and 55,000 British. This was the snowbound fight so famously depicted in 2001 in the Emmy Award-winning miniseries "Band of Brothers." The term "bulge" refers to the salient that the Germans initially put into the Allies' line. The Gap, which has been hosting the event for more than 20 years, has a connection to the Battle of the Bulge because the 28th Division, now part of the Pennsylvania National Guard, was one of the units that took part in the battle. "The 28th Division took the brunt during the first few days of the Battle of the Bulge," Shaw said. "They were right in the center of it.

Annie’s Mailbox: Husband should consider self
Dear Annie: My wife and I recently celebrated our 43rd wedding anniversary. It was not a happy occasion for me.My wife was an alcoholic for years. She left our children and me on three different occasions, and I took her back each time because I wanted to keep my family together. Once, she went with co-workers to a bar after work and was brought home five hours later by two men who had gone through her purse to find her address. My wife finally got treatment and has been sober for 20 years. Things in our marriage became OK, but not great.Ten years ago, I found out she'd had an affair when she told me I needed to be tested for a venereal disease. The guy was a co-worker and someone I'd known for years. Since that time, things have gone downhill. It doesn't help that she gets mad at me for just about everything.

On Friday, Nelson applauded candidate Sen. Hillary Clinton's pledge to seek seating the state's delegation. He also sought to get the other candidates to promise the same thing. "In the end, the Florida vote will count — and, so will all its delegates," Nelson said in a statement. But if one or both parties still have a raging contest for their nominations next summer, no candidate is going to want to bring in votes that might put someone else over the top. One wild card on the GOP side is a rule giving Greer virtual control of the delegation, whether it's 57 or 114 votes. That means he can broker the Florida bloc to the candidate who does what the state wants — such as putting Crist on the ticket for vice president. Delegate math aside, operatives on both sides know that Florida is still Florida.
