Few know physiatrits could help with pain

CHICAGO, Oct. 8 Only 1 percent of U.S. adults know the term "physiatrist," a physician specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation, a U.S. survey found.
However, 67 percent of those surveyed by L.C. Williams & Associates Research Group for the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation said they could benefit from medical care provided by a physiatrist -- once the specialty was defined for them.
Physiatrists, or rehabilitation physicians, specialize in non-surgical management of a full range of conditions including low back, shoulder and neck pain, tendonitis, arthritis, osteoporosis, sports injuries, or more complex conditions such as spinal cord injuries, stroke and cardiac rehabilitation and traumatic brain injuries, using advanced diagnostic techniques and treatment options.

Radio Talk

When Al Gore proposed launching a progressive TV network, a Fox News executive told Advertising Age (10/13/03): "The problem with being associated as liberal is that they wouldn't be going in a direction that advertisers are really interested in…. If you go out and say that you are a liberal network, you are cutting your potential audience, and certainly your potential advertising pool, right off the bat." (See Extra!, 11-12/03: http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=2595)

FAIR's call to the ABC contact person listed on the memo, to ask if similar "blackout" lists exist for other shows, including conservative-leaning programs, has not been returned.

FAIR, the national media watch group, has been offering well-documented criticism of media bias and censorship since 1986.

Protecting the core of life

For starters, Mater Dei is a hospital thats designed to accommodate all the specialities that modern medicine requires.

St Lukes was built in the early 1940s and only catered for general medicine and surgeries. Now we have so many sub-specialities that require their own niche in a hospital.

Cardiology did not start as a department until 1995 and all the cardiac bits were placed in different parts over the hospital. We were shoe-horned into a place that wasnt designed for us.

With regard to Mater Dei, we were consulted from day one as how we wanted our department laid out so we are very proud of it as we had an input in its design.

Its one of the nicest hospitals Ive ever worked in.

Thats as far as the hospital is concerned.

Sample success in a career you love

Americans may be growing increasingly weary of their jobs, but it doesn't have to stay that way. A survey by the Conference Board found that only 50 percent of working Americans were satisfied with their jobs in 2005, compared with 60 percent in 1995. It cites stress, lack of personal achievement and time away from their families, among other factors, for Americans' dissatisfaction. Those ages 35 to 44 were the least happy with their jobs, and older workers, age 65 and older, were the most satisfied. While lower-income workers tended to be more dissatisfied, the downward trend was seen across all income groups. .

Clinic's results make 9/11 responders believe

Within days of beginning treatment, Mike Wire noticed changes. His pain eased. His mood brightened. His sense of smell returned, sharper than ever.

A retired millwright from Bucks County, Wire, 60, is among thousands of rescue workers, firefighters and police officers who developed an array of serious ailments after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in New York. Wire spent 21/2 weeks at ground zero helping rig cranes to remove a precarious fallen girder.

Wire's symptoms - shortness of breath, depression, aching joints, and feelings of doom - surfaced later. And he found little relief until he began getting treated at the New York Rescue Workers Detoxification Project, a Manhattan clinic that follows a protocol pioneered by the late L. Ron Hubbard, controversial founder of the Church of Scientology.

Meat-Axe Justice

So many black males are going to prison now that it is a black rite of passage; their forced surrender to reality of justice in America.

In nine states, up to 40% of black males are not permitted to vote because their citizenship has been taken away.

Of course, now there are over a million black males in prison, but is anyone troubled by this?

Not really, and besides, the good people of Tehachapi are begging bread from a flush-with-money prison system to build their hospital. Doesn't this strike anyone as even a tiny bit odd?

Since many claim scripture for guidance, don't you think there is some counsel therein for conscientious citizens? What about a cruel David and the little ewe lamb? Do we have the wit to discern and repent when timely truths visit?

David did, to his credit.
